Consultancy
Nationally
SEEC meets regularly with representatives of other credit bodies in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland as the UK Credit Forum as the primary consultancy body for credit in the four countries. Its 2004 survey of HE credit practice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland was used significantly in national consultations to develop overarching principles for credit-rated awards across the interface between higher level academic and vocational programmes. The 2008 implementation of the qualification and credit framework for England (the QCF) reflected the credit guidelines developed jointly by credit consortia.
SEEC members are authors in the forthcoming UKCF publication "Making Sense of Credit and Qualifications", co-edited by UKCF Chair Paul Bridges and Mark Flynn, from Edge Hill University.
SEEC carried out research work for the Sussex Learning Network around progression and Foundation Degrees in 2007, and the South East London Lifelong Learning Network in 2009.
Member consultation and brokerage
SEEC has a commitment to its member institutions to inform them about, and facilitate the development of, credit-related issues. It is able, within the existing time resources of its staff, to help create relationships between members in the pursuit of this aim. Advice about brokering of activities between institutions can be offered, with the understanding that SEEC will not be in a position to promote any member preferentially.
Members wishing to consult with others can circulate information and requests through the SEEC JISC lists, via the SEEC office. Management of the responses will be the responsibility of the member institution.
Opportunities for new consultancy work
SEEC welcomes opportunities to pilot work in new areas of credit development. We would be interested in working with members, for example to monitor the developing relationship between universities and the QCF, or the use of credit by professional bodies, and how widening access and participation fares under the new political direction. Where appropriate, proposals are circulated to members for tender and feedback.
