Professional development events
SEEC is a major source of expertise in professional development for the implementation of CATS and related activities.
SEEC’s relationship with its members and and non-members working in higher and vocational education is continuously developed through its regular events - one day professional development seminars and workshops on the practical implementation of credit processes, and credit-related curriculum issues.
We do this by inviting our active network of colleagues, many of whom are national leaders in specialist areas of CATS, to run sessions and present papers. This offers direct contact with ‘state of the art’ developments and encourages discussion and consultation.
Subjects are chosen through consultation, often arising out of the Network Groups, and from key topical issues. Papers are available, often cutting-edge research findings and latest developments from practitioners. Sometimes a publication of best practice will result from the day, and there will always be a report of the event’s proceedings on the website. These events tend to be held at venues in central London, and include lunch and other refreshments.
SEEC also invites member institutions to host the professional development event, with a particular focus and expertise. Previous collaborations have been with the Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, (CETLs) and Lifelong Learning Networks (LLNs). Bonuses include the showcasing of an institution's specialism, the dissemination of its local knowledge and skills, and “instant consultation” with SEEC member institutions, where staff can meet colleagues in similar fields, and promote work to mutual benefit.
Costs: Members are charged £80 each to attend the Professional Development Seminars, and non-members pay the full fee of £160 for each participant.
