An introduction to credit and credit frameworks 2 June 2011
Location
This workshop was designed for staff working in HE, FE, Awarding Organisations, Sector Skills Councils and Professional Associations who are new or relatively new to credit, credit frameworks and their uses.
The programme consisted of a presentation on the Credit and the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) by Angela Joyce, Senior Manager for Policy and Strategy at the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency. Her presentation included the role of the QCF in the light of the recent Wolf Review of Vocational Qualifications, the architecture of the framework and its relationship to other qualification frameworks. There was an opportunity to ask questions following the presentation.
Dr Mark Atlay, Director of Teaching and Learning, University of Bedfordshire and currently the chair of SEEC took people through the different qualification frameworks including those operating in Europe and the role of credit and academic levels in defining learners’ achievements. There was an interactive session exploring the language of the SEEC level descriptors as well as a practical exercise, which asked delegates to assess the credit value and level of learning from a range of course profiles.
